SF Pendant
This lamp was uniquely designed for homes with picture rails, but that’s not the only thing that makes it special. We have partnered with Ecogenesis Biopolymers to create one of the world’s first home compostable lamps using their fully biodegradable biopolymers. At the end of this lamp’s life you can repurpose the socket and cord, and compost the rest. Seriously - break it down and plant it in your garden or home compost, or throw it in your green bin. Our designs are easy to take apart, and have no permanent fasteners or adhesives. Going forward, 4b design will offer new shades and structures in different colors so that when your lighting needs change, your existing light can return to the earth and be replaced by another compostable design. No more landfill fodder!
Materials
shade, structure and hanger made of genPHA™, a fully biodegradable biopolymer made through fermentation of plant matter
wood elements American oak finished with biodegradable beeswax and oil blend
electrical components made in Italy with components from Europe and North America
Electrical Details
UL listed electrical components
12 ft “international orange” cord, switch 2 ft from plug
LED light bulbs only, 7W max, E26 type “A” lamp
Please Note
each light is handmade in SF using a variety of manufacturing techniques including 3D printing and woodworking. Products may show evidence of these techniques (as seen in our product photography) and vary slightly from unit to unit.
the SF pendant can be purchased without the picture rail hanger and used as a traditional pendant with a swag hook (not included)
there are many styles of picture rails, and most rails have been painted over quite a few times. Our hanger was designed to be universal, but if you have any concerns about proper fitment, please reach out and we will do our best to accommodate. This product will not work with picture rails at the ceiling line.
for more information about PHA please consult Ecogenesis or GOPHA.org
2nd batch of lights will be shipped January 2026
